The method and idea of fishing industry have been changing rapidly. Though more and more young people tend to leave their town for more opportunities, fishing industry should not lost its significant role in young people’s life. Part of it is because fishing has been one of the oldest tradition and resources of Iceland, and also, fishing industry is still generating huge profit and job for local people. The problem is how to innovate the idea of fishing industry and protect its tradition at the same time. It has to be sustainable but also creating opportunities at the same time.
We believe that the future of Icelandic fishing industry lays in
diversity and efficiency. Regional Park as a project that aims to attract young
people should embrace this idea of diversity. To some degree, fishing industry
in regional almost like a company that generates profit. However more
importantly, it must preserve the historical tradition and uniqueness of
Iceland.
