FISHING & THE REGIONAL PARK
The key question: What do young people want from this regional park and how can fishing play a role?
-More diverse job opportunities
-More social gathering places
-More variety: activities & commodities
-Increased population of young people
***We believe that these elements will take time to grow & that the regional park will help greatly with encouraging this growth among the communities of Saefellsnes.
Our Findings: Fishing is a central part of Icelandic cultural identity and particularly life on Snaefellsnes Peninsula. We believe that fishing will be a central part of the regional park as it is connected to all of the other topics that are being developed.
What have we done?: It is important to consider the past & present when planning for the future of fishing in the regional park. During our time in Iceland we have explored fishing in the past & present through:
-Visiting the Maritime Museum
-Touring a Fish Factory
- Going Cod Fishing
- Meeting with the Employees of Marz Seafood
